Make sure the specials are doing what you want, for example I have the HAT I intend to use for thrust control as 8-way but the others as 4-way. Remove the "Mode 1" activation button (so it's always on) and set all the buttons to "unassigned" or "fallback" (there is no fallback so this amounts to the same thing) except for the specials like the mouse scroll etc. In the x52 profile editor go into the table view and delete all the mode and pinky mode combinations except the leftmost one. In windows game controller click Properties on the x52 and find the checkbox that disables the clutch button completely.
